Design review is a conversation about risk

An effective review identifies what needs attention before the next commitment.

Prepare a focused packet

Share the current drawings, brief, known issues and the decision the review needs to make. Participants should understand which revision is under discussion. Separate questions about function, production and appearance so that none is lost in a general conversation. A meeting can be useful without pretending that every aspect of the design is ready for approval.

Leave with clear actions

Record decisions, unresolved questions and named owners. Include the evidence needed to close each issue and when it will be reviewed. If approval is conditional, preserve the conditions next to the decision. A review loses value when discussion is remembered differently by each participant. The useful output is a common understanding of the next controlled step, not a page of signatures disconnected from the actual work.

A practical review checklist

  • Identify the current revision.
  • State the decision needed.
  • Record owners and conditions.
